2026 Oconee Rivers Audubon Society Kickoff Meeting 9/3/26

Our friends at Oconee Rivers Audubon Society are hosting their annual kick-off meeting on Thursday, September 3rd from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at UGA's Odum School of Ecology Building (140 East Green St.)

Dr. Abby Sterling, Manomet Conservation Sciencess Senior Director of Shorebird Conservation in North America, will present “Shorebird Connections Across the Hemisphere: How Conservation at Sites Supports Migration.”

The Georgia Bight supports nearly 400,000 shorebirds annually, but our coast is only one part of a much larger journey across the Western Hemisphere. Conservation efforts here for species such as Red Knots and Hudsonian Whimbrels support migrations stretching from South America to the Arctic. Through photos and stories, Dr. Sterling will highlight Manomet’s work at critical sites throughout the Atlantic Flyway, the journeys of these remarkable birds, and conservation successes that provide a roadmap for protecting shorebirds throughout their annual cycle.

Food and refreshments will be available beginning at 6:30 PM, followed by a presentation at 7:00 PM. Hope to see you there!
