We are thankful to Dan and Sally Coenen for helping spearhead the Middle Oconee Conservation Corridor initiative. As landowners along the river, the Coenens understand the ecological importance of the river, its beauty, and also the threat of development in this area of Athens. The Coenens will be hosting Butterflies and Brunch, a fundraiser for this project in September (more info to come!) We appreciate their commitment to the land, the river, and the community, as highlighted by Sally's quote:
"We care deeply about Athens. It has given us so much. We want to give something back - something that will last and help to preserve the remarkable beauty and natural vibrancy of our community. For us, the best way to do that is to join with others to create a corridor of permanently protected lands within the city of Athens along the Middle Oconee River."
How can I help?Â
Attend an event! ORLT is hosting several community events to support the project. Each will highlight the Middle Oconee River, its beauty, ecological significance, and the importance of conserving land along the corridor.Â
Make a tax-deductible donation and help us match our grant from The Riverview Foundation.Â
Become a member of ORLT or renew your membership!
Spread the word:Â tell your friends, neighbors, and community businesses about the project and ways to get involved.Â
