About the event

Join Oconee River Land Trust (ORLT) on May 15th for an afternoon Middle Oconee River hike. Our group will meet at the end of Old Wages Road. ORLT staff will be there to help direct you where to park. From there, Stewardship Director Dan Crescenzo will lead an approximately 2-3 mile leisurely walk through forests along the Middle Oconee River.

  • When: May 15th, 1:00 – 3:00pm.
  • Cost: free
  • Where to meet: At the end of Old Wages Road, Statham, GA 30666
  • Terrain: Moderate difficulty, with some steeper slopes and off-trail hiking.
  •  Details: The walk will take us through mesic hardwood, bottomland hardwood, oak-hickory-pine and pine-oak forests near the Middle Oconee River. Along the way, we will see a Native American fishing weir and extensive areas of mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) and dog hobble (Leucothoe fontanesiana).
  • PLEASE NOTE: The hike will start as one group, but about half-way into the hike, anyone who feels they’ve reached their limit can return to their cars accompanied by an ORLT staff person.
  • What to bring: Hiking shoes, some water, and a walking stick. We will be going slowly but will traverse some steeper terrain in places.
  •  Parking: We will park along the road at the end of Old Wages Road.
  • RSVP: Please fill out THIS FORM to secure your reservation. We will be limiting this event to 40 participants.
  • Contact: If you have any questions, please reach out to Theresa Pippin at theresa@oconeeriverlandtrust.org.
