About the event
Join us for a leisurely 1 to 2 mile bird walk in wetlands along the Ocmulgee River. Formerly a Kaolin mine, the mined areas have filled with water and re-vegetated, becoming excellent habitat for migratory bird species, as well as year-round residents.
The Ocmulgee Audubon Society counted 44 species on their visit to the easement in 2019, including osprey, green heron, great egret, common gallinule, anhinga, wood duck, downy woodpecker, red-eyed vireo, prothonatory warbler, and numerous red-winged blackbirds.
Please contact dan@oconeeriverlandtrust.org if you would like to attend. In the event of inclement weather, the hike will be rescheduled for May 1st, 2021 at the same time.
*This will be a socially-distanced hike and will have no more than 10 registered attendees. Masks must be worn during this hike.
