About the event
Join us for a annual monitor hike along the Middle Oconee River on Tallassee Forest Preserve .
This is a moderately difficult 4-5 mile hike with slopes - We will hike the entire 300-acre preserve from the upland forest through the bottomland along the Middle Oconee River and back; some sections of the hike will be off-trail. There are extensive canebrakes and areas of river oats with many diverse species along the slopes of the hardwood forest. This is a beautiful property to visit and at some point will be open to the public.
Please bring water, lunch, and wear good walking shoes for an off-trail hike. We will meet Burney Harris Lyons Middle School parking lot at 1600 Tallassee Road, Athens, Ga. (Look for ORLT staff in the front parking lot area near Tallassee Road).
We will cap the hikes at 20 people in order to socially distance and follow COVID guidelines for outdoor activities.
